Anton Pieck
The world of Anton Pieck was not that in which he lived, but that in which he wanted to live: preferably in the nineteenth century, surrounded by ordinary people of that time and a scenery of old buildings. If he would have smoked it would have been from a stone pipe from Gouda, but he didn't smoke.
If he would have drunk it would have been from a crystal cup, but he didn't drink, at least not that what should go in a cup like that. Anton Pieck has been a "displaced person" throughout his entire live, not out of affectation, remorse or dissapointment. In the time in which he lived there was nothing there for him, in the old times everything.
